Cosy·Malo
The bright living room of the Cosy Malo apartment, opening onto the balcony

Saint-Malo — Rochebonne

A 75 m² apartment, eighty metres from the sand

Rated 5-star on AirBnb. Two bedrooms, a large south-west facing balcony with nothing overlooking it, and Saint-Malo’s longest beach at the end of the road.

The apartment

Fully renovated, and meant to be lived in

Set in a quiet residential block in the Rochebonne district, the apartment was renovated from top to bottom in 2015. It is bright, opens wide onto its balcony, and is large enough for four to six people to live in without getting in each other’s way.

Both bedrooms have professional-grade beds — the thing guests mention most often once they are home. The kitchen is fully equipped, for anyone who would rather bring back fish from the market than eat out every evening.

The balcony faces south-west, with nothing overlooking it, backing onto greenery with a glimpse of the sea. Garden table and chairs: this is where breakfast happens, and where the evening drink happens, with gulls for neighbours.

Bakery, small supermarket and restaurants are all under three hundred metres away.

The area

Rochebonne, the side of town where people live all year

Three kilometres of fine sand, families in the morning and runners in the evening. The beach is under two minutes away, down a flight of steps.

From there the Sillon promenade runs all the way to the walled old town, past the big Anglo-Norman villas. It is by far the best way to reach the ramparts: on foot, along the sea, without ever touching the car.

Saint-Malo is also a port of great departures — the Route du Rhum and the Québec Saint-Malo transatlantic race come round every four years and put the whole town on the ramparts.

From the front door
Rochebonne beach 80 m
Bus stop (Line 4 - 18 min from the train station) 200 m
Bakery and shops 300 m
Surf school 15 min walk
Thermes Marins seawater spa 15 min walk
Train station (TGV) 30 min walk
Walled town via the Sillon 40 min walk

Getting here from the UK

No airport, no hire car

Saint-Malo is a ferry port. Sailings run from Portsmouth, and from Poole via Guernsey, which means you can bring your own car, your own luggage and as many buckets and spades as you like. The terminal is a short drive from the apartment, and there is private parking waiting at the other end.

Rennes is the nearest airport and station, with TGV connections from Paris. Do check current sailings before booking — timetables change between seasons.
